Raise your hand if your holiday wish list came from the Sears or JCPenney catalogs as a kid! 🖐️
What a simple, fun task that was each Thanksgiving before we ate like lunatics. Dreams were alive, possibilities of playing with new toys were endless, and we were clueless as to the reality of what would be happening over the coming weeks, especially Black Friday. (cue in suspense music)
As a young adult, the Black Friday shopping extravaganza frenzy became a tradition with my mom and me. Looking back, I’m in awe of how we survived:
packed stores
blurred vision
caffeine induced determination
holiday music synched in 10 different stores
frantically rushing towards (FOMO) THE #1 gift on the list
asking who people are shopping for when they brought their entire pack
finding a spot in your intended shopping center lot (did you remember to take a picture of where you parked the car?)
This makes my back hurt, and I can’t help wondering if that cheesecake was really worth the hour wait. 🥴 (of course it was!)
I think I need a drink now! 🍹
In the end, it’s all about the thrill of the bargain. The adrenaline is pumping through your veins and you’re talking rambling on a mile a minute! Picturing the priceless looks of happiness when the gifts are opened.
I imagine that will be the feeling I get when I land clients needing my copywriting services. All of the headaches producing a memorable future, and thinking how miraculous it was to survive.
In honor of the holiday season, I am working to repackage things I know extremely well. Follow along for the unwrapping event!
In the meantime, what is the most memorable adrenaline rush you felt at the beginning of your career path?
