When was the last time you did something smack-yourself-in-the-head stupid? You’re right in the middle of it, and your inner voice is saying, “What are you thinking?”, but you continue to do it anyway?

I had a couple of those moments last week. Not just one, but at least two that I will admit to at this moment in time.

Because I get to work from home, I get to people watch, listen to all the animals in the neighborhood, and hang out with my cats and my turtle. So when I heard this weird sound and several voices outside, I did the nosy normal thing and looked out the window. In the middle of the street, there was a group of 6 or 7 late teens, early 20-somethings trying to throw a pair of sneakers up on the telephone line.

I live in an older neighborhood where houses range in age from 50 to over 100 years old. There is also a big drug and homelessness problem in town, so the hubs and I joke that if you’re in need of a little something something, the motel is just a block away. 😉

Well, I’m not wanting any “advertisements” in front of my house, so I go outside and sit on my porch swing. I have a journal in my hands and go back to writing some things down, while watching what they’re trying to do. THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA, BABB! my logical brain screamed. The female in the group started eyeballing me.

I continued to sit, pretending to write, saying nothing. THAT would’ve been even dumber. Eventually, they decided to leave, looking back over their shoulders to see what I’d do. Once they were out of sight, I stayed for a few minutes longer before going back into the house.

Soon after that, they walked by the house again, but nothing happened. I did take pictures of them on my phone so that if anything happened to my property, I’d have something to let the police know.

Luckily, nothing’s happened. Whew! 🫣

The point is, I’m working on being confident in my voice. Even though I didn’t use my physical voice in the situation, I stood up for my house, my neighborhood. #WIN moment!

The other thing, maybe not as bad as I think it is, was whining in public. Not where people turned to look at me like a kid wanting a candy bar, but the kind that goes out to the world, and once you’re done being a pity party, you realize you probably should’ve kept it to yourself. I blame the full moon for my lapse in my suck-it-up-buttercup ability.

The flip side to this coin is this: that is why we have our support communities. IFYKYK

Anyways, I’m the newbie copywriter, trying to get my JUST NEED ONE client. It’s not the path I imagined it to be, especially trying to figure out the client attracting phase of the process.

So, my takeaway is that it’s okay to need your tribe. Find your people. I have to make these connections from scratch, and being a first time learner for what’s been a long time, it’s definitely a trip!

Bottom line: my house is cleaner, I know I’m doing the right thing by me, there’s more time for drumming, and I’m always ready to expand my horizons. Happy October, everyone!
