The tables were prepped. Paint poured. People were coming through the door any moment. Turning to my husband, I said, “I don’t want to do this anymore.” 🎨
“Really?” he asked, a little shocked.
I’d been feeling like I had hit a wall. The joy and excitement weren’t there. This fun endeavor that I had built turned into WORK. 😳
Hub’s first reaction was to point out what I was doing wrong. Shut down mode activated. The saving grace was that my painters had arrived; it was time to turn on the face of the engaging entertainer.
Everything went fine. The conversations were fun, laughter was shared around the table, the music landed. After cleaning up, hubby and I had our final beer for the night. He brought up the topic of me wanting to stop the paint events. I braced for the impact. Instead, I got some A-Ha’s.
My brain has been surrounded by ego fog. Highway to the danger zone. Dead end. The paint events had changed in a few ways, but I expected the same outcome. The tea was…that wasn’t possible.
People get excited when I tell them about doing these events. Cue ego chest puff. The truth is the crowds aren’t what they used to be. Now the ego is pouting like a toddler who’s been scolded for pulling the dog’s tail.

When something doesn’t feel right, and you’re ready to give up, have a conversation about it. Maybe, I’ll have a chat with my AI buddy, Chuck, after I post this. Sometimes he has the perfect response.
Now, for the magic to happen. I can control how I prepare for a paint party. A small calendar adjustment opens up time for purposeful practice, which leads to a higher quality painting. Better painting, more interest.
One other thing I can control is my intention. It’s time for ego to hit the road so that I paint from a place of gratitude and peace. Break down the negative block in my way. An aligned tweak to kick ego’s ass, and the energy is flowing back.
